rdev runs on a server you rent in your own name. If you do not have one yet, the panel can create it for you.
One click from the panel
Open Get a server in the panel and pick Hetzner, DigitalOcean, Vultr, Akamai (Linode) or AWS (Lightsail):
- Create an API token with read and write access in your provider account. The panel links to the right page.
- Vultr: under Access Control, allow rdev.cloud's address
193.123.37.109, or all IPv4 addresses. - Akamai: give the token read and write access to Linodes. Only regions that run first-boot scripts (the Metadata service) are listed.
- AWS: create an access key with Lightsail access and paste the access key ID and the secret access key separated by a colon (
AKIA…:secret).
- Vultr: under Access Control, allow rdev.cloud's address
- Paste the token and choose Show regions and sizes. The panel lists the provider's regions and the sizes with at least 4 GB of RAM, with their monthly prices.
- Pick a region and a size, optionally add a Tailscale auth key so the server joins your private network at once, and choose Create the server.
The server starts with Ubuntu 24.04, installs rdev with your license on first boot and appears on your dashboard after about five minutes. On Hetzner, Vultr and Akamai the panel shows the root password once; on DigitalOcean and Lightsail, sign in from the provider's console or add an SSH key. Your token is used for this one request and never stored. The server, its bill and its root access stay in your provider account.
Any other provider
Every other provider works with a startup script. In Get a server, pick the provider to see the script for your license, then:
- Create an Ubuntu 24.04 or Debian 12 server with at least 4 GB of RAM (8 GB recommended).
- Paste the script into the field your provider offers for it: user data (AWS EC2, Oracle), startup script (Google Cloud), custom data (Microsoft Azure) or post-install script (Hostinger).
- Start the server. rdev installs itself on first boot.
No such field? Connect over SSH once and run the install command from your dashboard.
